Claude Duet is Anthropic’s proactive AI agent app. Rather than waiting for a new prompt every time, it can prepare a morning brief, review connected email and calendar information, draft next steps, and return larger work products such as research briefs, spreadsheets, slide decks, and dashboards.

As of November 1, 2026, Claude Duet is a limited research preview available through a waitlist to eligible Claude Pro and Max users in the United States. It is not yet a generally available global product.

What Claude Duet does

Duet is designed around ongoing responsibility rather than one-off answers. You describe an outcome in normal language, and it works out which connected apps and steps may help. It can continue after you leave the app, then send an update when a result or decision is ready.

  • Morning briefs: review connected email and calendar information, highlight what needs attention, and prepare draft next steps.
  • Follow-through: revisit quiet threads, track work in progress, and bring decisions back to the main conversation.
  • Larger deliverables: create reviewable files such as research briefs, financial models, slide decks, and dashboards.
  • Cloud browser: work with websites that do not have a dedicated connector, using its own cloud computer.
  • Persistent context: use the memory, skills, and connectors already configured in your Claude account.

Connected apps and integrations

Claude Duet can use connectors you have already connected and authorized in Claude. Anthropic’s support documentation names services including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, QuickBooks, HubSpot, DocuSign, and Calendly. The official product page advertises a broader connector and plugin ecosystem, but exact services and available actions can vary. Connect only the apps needed for a task and review their permissions.

Anthropic also documents partner payment options such as Link and Shop Pay for purchases that you explicitly approve. These are separate from ordinary app connectors and remain subject to eligibility and regional restrictions.

Claude Duet pricing and usage limits

During the research preview, Claude Duet is included with eligible Claude Pro and Max plans at no extra subscription charge. That does not mean its work is unlimited: background checks, briefs, and larger jobs count against the same five-hour session and weekly usage allowances as other Claude activity. Heavy recurring tasks can therefore use up a plan’s allowance sooner.

There is no separately published public API rate card for Claude Duet as a standalone product. Do not confuse the consumer app preview with Anthropic API billing.

Who can access Claude Duet?

Anthropic’s current English-language help documentation describes the research preview as available to Pro and Max users with a US Claude account who receive an invitation from the waitlist. Invitations are sent in waves, so joining the list does not guarantee immediate access. Team and Enterprise plans are not included in the current preview documentation.

Access is therefore the biggest limitation for international readers: users outside the United States should not assume they can join and use the preview today. Check the current eligibility rules before subscribing or planning a workflow around it.

Visit the official Claude Duet page and check the waitlist.

Limitations to understand before connecting accounts

  • You cannot select the model during the preview; Duet runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and chooses the effort for a job.
  • You cannot watch its browser session live or take over the browser while it works.
  • It checks connected accounts at intervals, so an urgent message can arrive between checks.
  • It cannot see every Claude project or the files on your computer, and it cannot edit your existing Claude work.
  • It does not make phone calls or send text messages to other people. It can send email from connected accounts with your approval.
  • Some actions remain prohibited, including trading securities, moving money between accounts, and accessing another person’s account.
  • Some connectors have limited functionality, and Microsoft 365 is not listed as available in the current support documentation.

Safety, approvals, and privacy

Anthropic says Duet is designed to request approval before consequential operations such as sending a message, making a payment, signing a document, or deleting information. When it provides a number or summary, it can identify the email, file, or spreadsheet it used. However, it can misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent. Review drafts, payment details, and approval requests before confirming them.

Connected apps expose information according to the permissions you grant. Disconnecting an app stops future access, but does not automatically erase memories of information already collected. Treat email and web content as untrusted input: prompt-injection defenses are not perfect, and approval checkpoints matter.

A safe first workflow to test

Before giving Duet a broad brief, test one low-risk task that has a clear result and does not require it to send or change anything. A daily planning brief is a useful starting point:

  1. Connect only the calendar and inbox folders that are relevant to the brief.
  2. Ask Duet to summarize upcoming meetings, deadlines, and unanswered priority threads, with links or source references where available.
  3. Tell it to draft suggested replies or tasks but never send messages, delete information, or change events without your approval.
  4. Compare the brief with the original messages and calendar for several days; note missed items, incorrect priorities, and time saved.
  5. Check how much of your Claude usage allowance the repeated background work consumes before adding more tasks.

Only expand the workflow after the summaries are consistently useful and the permission boundary is clear. For payments, legal documents, external communication, or account changes, keep explicit human approval.

Claude Duet vs a regular Claude chat

Area Claude chat Claude Duet
Interaction Primarily responds within a conversation Designed to take ownership of ongoing tasks and follow up
Background work Depends on the feature or workflow Can prepare briefs and continue approved work between messages
Deliverables Answers and files created in chat Can return larger work products such as briefs, decks, and dashboards
Context Uses Claude account features Reuses configured memory, skills, and connectors
Availability Depends on plan and region Limited US research preview on eligible plans

Who should consider Claude Duet?

  • Professionals managing a busy inbox and calendar who want help identifying the next action.
  • Small-business operators who need recurring checks, invoice follow-up drafts, or business summaries.
  • Researchers and managers who want ongoing briefs and larger deliverables from connected information.
  • Existing Claude users who already rely on Claude memory, skills, and connectors.

It is a weaker fit for people who need a generally available international product, full live visibility into browser actions, unrestricted usage, or a workflow that requires unsupported connectors.
